Structural Systems site footage

Steel light-industrial buildings in Desert Hot Springs, documented from open footings to finished standing-seam roofs.

In February 2021 a Desert Hot Springs industrial campus was running in three phases at once, and Joseph Gonzalez's drone footage from a job he worked there catches all of them in one flight. This is production building at campus scale. Every pad repeats the same foundation, frame, and skin.

A grid of footings

Steel buildings put their loads down at points, so each pad starts as a grid of square footings cut into the sand, linked by perimeter trenches. Workers tie rebar mats at the bottom of the open excavations while plumbing stubs wait in rows for the pours. All of it sits inside a finished block-and-iron frontage wall, street landscaping already in.

Steel up, roof on

Bay by bay the frames take purlins, then panel, then roof. Finished, the building is one clean skin: long runs of white standing-seam over insulated metal walls, the insulation and the weather surface hung in one pass. In the desert the white roof is there to throw back heat, not for looks.

Finished neighbors, open pads

A phased campus means working beside neighbors that are already finished. Between pads sit laydown yards of panel, steel, and formwork, and a skid steer works grade between them, with fresh curb and gutter framing the lot edge.

Laydown yard between pads: storage container, portable toilets, stacked steel and formwork, a skid steer moving sand in the yard, new curb and gutter along the lot edge, and workers along a utility trench.

Over the park

The loop holds one corner of the campus, wind farm across the valley floor. A service truck works a completed pair of buildings while the next pads wait across the drive. Staging steel and panel around finished neighbors takes real logistics, and Structural Systems brings the same discipline to a custom home, where every trade and delivery shares one driveway.
